The University of Mary Washington Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in Fredericksburg, a small business and entrepreneurial resource center, serves the regional small business community. The SBDC is responsible for management training, business consulting, and research applicable to all aspects of small company creation and growth.

General Description of Position

The chief objectives of the position are to provide confidential consulting and research to SBDC clients, plan and provide training seminars, and assist the Director with developing and managing outreach services. The selected candidate will be required to complete Confidentiality and Conflict of Interest Agreements for this position.

This is a restricted position, contingent on ongoing, available funds.

Required Education

Degree in business administration or related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Required Experience

Prior experience consulting or advising.

Prior experience teaching, training or routine public presentations.

Significant management experience.

Strong written and interpersonal communication skills.

Understanding of the application of financial statements, ratio analysis, and financial forecasting as management tools.

Ability to find and apply relevant data and information and interpret management use.

Familiar with pre- and early venture company formation methods.

Self-motivated and works well with minimal supervision.

Ability to work well with others, employ diplomacy and tact, and pursue clarity through appropriate channels.

Strong computer skills including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Education

Masters Degree in business administration or related field.

Preferred Experience

Prior business ownership.

Experience with client information management systems.

Experience with MS Publisher.
